What is the ECAT?
The Engineering Colleges Admission Test (ECAT) is Punjab's centralised engineering entrance exam, conducted by UET Lahore and accepted by every Punjab UET (UET Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Peshawar campuses, RCET Gujranwala and more) and many private engineering universities. The 100-MCQ paper is a strict 100-minute sprint with negative marking.
ECAT 2026 carries a heavy weight inside the UET aggregate formula (typically 30%) alongside FSc (50%) and Matric (20%) — so even a 70+ ECAT cleared with negative marking discipline can dramatically lift your final aggregate.
ECAT 2026 paper pattern
- Physics — 30 MCQs (FSc Part 1 + 2)
- Mathematics — 30 MCQs (FSc Pre-Engineering syllabus)
- English — 10 MCQs (grammar, comprehension)
- Choose either Chemistry — 30 MCQs OR Computer Science — 30 MCQs
- +1 mark for each correct, -1/4 for each incorrect
UET Lahore aggregate formula
- Matric (SSC): 25% of obtained marks
- FSc Pre-Engineering: 45% of obtained marks
- ECAT: 30% of obtained marks
| Electrical Engineering | 85.6% – 87.9% |
|---|---|
| Mechanical Engineering | 84.3% – 86.4% |
| Computer Science | 85.1% – 87.2% |
| Civil Engineering | 82.0% – 84.5% |
| Chemical Engineering | 78.8% – 81.0% |

Smart 60-day ECAT plan
- Weeks 1–2: Strengthen FSc Part 1 fundamentals — kinematics, vectors, work-energy, mole concept, equations.
- Weeks 3–4: Move into FSc Part 2 — electromagnetism, modern physics, organic chemistry, calculus.
- Weeks 5–6: Daily 30-minute timed sets at ECAT pace (1 minute per MCQ) with strict negative-marking review.
- Weeks 7–8: Five full ECAT past papers, error journal, last-mile English and vocabulary drills.
