What we mean by CSS preliminary prep

Most aspirants spend their first 3 months building foundations across English Essay, Précis, Pakistan Affairs, Current Affairs, Islamiat and General Science & Ability — the six compulsory CSS papers — before locking in optionals.

Compulsory papers (CE 2026 pattern)

  • English Essay — 100 marks
  • English Précis & Composition — 100 marks
  • Pakistan Affairs — 100 marks
  • Current Affairs — 100 marks
  • Islamic Studies (or Comparative Religion for non-Muslims) — 100 marks
  • General Science & Ability — 100 marks

Recommended preliminary plan (90 days)

  1. Week 1–4: Essay outline practice (1 essay/week) + précis daily + Pak Affairs eras.
  2. Week 5–8: Current affairs (last 12 months) + Islamiat core themes + GSA shortcuts.
  3. Week 9–12: Full mock papers, peer-checking, and FPSC past-paper review.

Frequently asked questions

Can a fresh BS graduate clear CSS in their first attempt?

Yes — historically 8–12% of allocated officers pass on their first attempt. The non-negotiable is essay practice from day one.

Are CSS optional subjects part of preliminary prep?

Not initially. Lock in compulsory papers first; optionals are best chosen after a baseline diagnostic.
